Our clients tell all about starting a business...

Arena tyres
Graham and Keith got in touch with Sheffield City Council’s enterprise programme to get their MOT Centre business started, following a referral to the enterprise coaching team they were able to develop their business idea and remove any barriers to start up. The pair then met with a business advisor to produce a business plan which they were then able to use to approach banks for funding.  Both Graham and Keith attended courses, workshops and networking events organised by the enterprise programme to help them move their business forward.

Sheffield City Council’s one stop shop for business in the Town Hall, First Point for Business, helped the duo access advice on how to proceed with planning for signage and their business rates.

Since the business’s launch, the enterprise programme has enabled Graham and Keith to access funding for marketing and promotional materials, and a sales specialist has also visited the business to provide telesales support. Speaking about their experiences Graham said:

“Our enterprise coach and business advisor have always been on the other end of the phone, their support has proved invaluable. The business plan our advisor helped us to produce enabled us to secure funding. The first two months in our new premises were hard, we were starting from scratch and people didn’t know we were there. Support marketing our business has helped and we are looking at going on a sales course. In the next twelve months our main business goal would be to start looking at opening up a second site for Arena tyres.”

Katy has received a range of support including enterprise coaching, intensive start up support, and a range of workshops accessed through Sheffield City Council’s enterprise programme.

"The networking opportunities from the programme have been excellent, being a sole trader business can be lonely and challenging at times but by accessing networks with other people in your position you can support each other. I am now working with my advisors to explore franchising ‘Shutterbugs’ as a way of growing and developing my business. The support is free and there is always someone on the end of the phone which is great for the tougher moments you have where you need some advice or pointing in the right direction."
