BiG Reunion Sees Business Starts-Ups Celebrate City’s Success
Fifty new business start-ups gathered at Sorby House, in Burngreave, to network and celebrate their recent success in Sheffield’s local economy.
The attendees, who have all recently set up in business with the support of the BiG: Make it Your Business programme, attended the BiG reunion on the 23 October 2008 to share their business experiences and network with other delegates who are on the same business support programme.
The breakfast meeting saw local entrepreneur, Julia Gash of Bag it Don’t Bin it, on hand to share her business experience and talk about how she developed one business before switching sectors from a retail to manufacturing company and the challenges she faced in doing this.
Key members from the BiG team talked about the BiG: Make it Your Business programme and the difference that the support is making in local communities across Sheffield by encouraging business start ups and helping existing business to grow.
Kevin Bennett, Director of BiG: Make it Your Business said: “As well as being a significant celebratory milestone, the BiG reunion provided a great opportunity to hear first hand the difference that our programme is making to people across the city. I was delighted to see the range of new business start-ups and join them in recognising their business achievements. This event proved that being your own boss is achievable, and hard work aside, can be very rewarding.”
Speaking of the BiG breakfast reunion, BiG client, Andy Powell of Powell Outdoor Media, said:
“The reunion was a huge success in my eyes as it gave the opportunity for new-start businesses to network with other new-starts and exchange views, experiences and, most importantly, business cards. Networking can be daunting even for experienced business owners but the reunion offered a relaxed environment to put into practice our new found skills.”
