Sheffield Franchising Fair Showcasing Local Business Opportunities
Star of BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, Ruth Badger, made a special appearance at the BiG Franchising Fair on Thursday 27 November 2008 at Sheffield City Hall. The unique event offered 281 attendees the chance to find out about franchising and the wide range of franchise opportunities available across the city.
The exhibition showcased franchising opportunities from a variety of organisations including Yogabugs, Swisher, Bluebird Care and Car Medic. Visitors had the chance to talk to the various companies about the opportunities available to them and learn more about what setting up as a franchisee actually involves.
Ruth Badger offered tips and advice for success in business. She also gave an insight into her experiences on ‘The Apprentice’ and facing Sir Alan Sugar in the boardroom. She also held a special session with students from Myers Grove School and Parkwood School, answering their questions on her experience in business and on TV.
Ruth Badger’s main message to attendees was that now is a great time to get into business and if you can succeed in the current economic climate you can succeed anytime. Ruth commented: “I was delighted to be invited to Sheffield to meet people who want to start up in business. Franchising is a great way to get in to business as the product is tried and tested. Hopefully, by sharing my experiences with those who came along, I showed that you don’t have to go through traditional routes such as university to be a successful businessperson.”
The free event, sponsored by Business Link, included various seminars throughout the day, providing business start-up information and offering practical support. Talks included a banking seminar from a representative at RBS, accountancy advice from Hawsons, a BT representative discussed ICT opportunities and Keeble Hawsons solicitors offered legal advice and tips.
The Sheffield City Council Cabinet Member for Employment and Enterprise, Sylvia Anginotti, opened the event. Visitors were also able to get advice on access to finance and wider business support from the BiG: Make it Your Business team.
