BiG Idea shortlist announced

4th December

The short-listed entrants to The BiG Idea competition to win up to £100,000 of business investment have been announced.

An impressive 279 applications were filtered down to a final short-list of 19 applicants who are today pitching to secure investment from five local ‘Business Angels’.  These entrepreneurs will be investing a combined total of £100,000 of their own money into the ideas that they believe have the best investment potential.

The competition is sponsored by BiG – Make it Your Business, Royal Bank of Scotland, Ant Marketing, Barber Harrison & Platt, The Star and Sheffield City Council, and aims to increase enterprise and new business start ups in the city.

Vince Taylor, Interim Director BiG, said: “The short-listed ideas are of a really high quality and I expect there will be some strong pitches for investment today. The fact that the competition received so many entries shows that there are plenty of budding entrepreneurs out there and BiG aims to provide the necessary support to help turn those ideas into reality so that we can make a significant impact on the economic growth of the city.”

All those short-listed will automatically receive a prize of a day's consultancy from one of the angels, or £1,000 cash to put to use in their business.  They are also being mentored by staff at RBS and BHP for their investment pitches today.
