New Appointment for Team BiG

20 October 2007

Sheffield's LEGI funded programme "BiG - Make It Your Business" has appointed Yvonne Asquith as Programme Manager.

BiG is the result of a successful bid that received £18.25m of Government funding for an initial three years.  Having spent five years with the South Yorkshire Objective One programme, Yvonne was initially seconded to the team to help prepare the winning bid.

The programme - which was launched on the 26th September and a featured a keynote speech from iconic entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne - will increase entrepreneurship and business start-ups, help existing businesses to grow, and reduce business failure rates.  Its focus is on helping people living in some of Sheffield’s most disadvantaged communities to set up successful businesses, which in turn will increase employment opportunities and boost economic growth across the whole city.

Yvonne will be part of team tasked with managing the first three years of Sheffield’s LEGI programme.  She said “Having worked on the bid I am now delighted to be able to drive forward delivery of this exciting initiative, which will help improve levels of enterprise, economic activity and prosperity within targeted parts of Sheffield.”

BiG is being delivered in partnership with a range of specialist organisations within the city.
