BiG Challenge
The BiG Challenge is a competition for budding entrepreneurs across Sheffield’s schools. Teams of pupils are given £25 cash to start up and run their own business over a six month period. Their aim is to increase that amount by as much as possible with teams being judged on teamwork, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The 2010 BiG Challenge overall winners were Young Money from Fir Vale school. They ran an events company and won the prize trip to Hong Kong, sponsored by DLA Piper. Young Money are due to go to DLA Piper's offices in Hong Kong during July.
The 2008/09 BiG Challenge overall winners were 9 Peas in a Pod from Fir Vale school. The team of seven Y10 pupils made and sold jewellry, bags, and t-shirts to raise awareness of the dangers of gun crime. They donated their profit to charity and won the BiG prize on the night, a trip to Paris sponsored by Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

The 2007/08 BiG Challenge overall winners were Bitz n Boblets, a team of seven Y9 pupils who designed, made and sold their own silver-plated jewellery. They made £1279.60 profit which they donated to St Luke’s Hospice. Bitz n Boblets won three BiG Challenge awards in total and their school Myers Grove got £18,000 to spend on enterprise. The Bitz n Boblets team also won the trip of a lifetime to Boston, USA and Harvard Business School.
