The Asperger Training Company
At the age of 42 Jayne Dore was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. Being fully aware of the problems that someone in her situation could face, Jayne decided that she wanted to start up a business that would help other people with Aspergers, and bring understanding to those people who knew little about the syndrome.
Jayne contacted BiG: Make it Your Business and she was signed up to a course to help her on her way to becoming her own boss.
Jayne said: “I enjoyed the experience of being with other people who were in the same position of wanting to start up a business. The course allowed me to work out if my business idea was worth carrying through, and taught me about specific things like copyright, which was really useful.”
The course demonstrated to Jayne how she could make her business idea flourish, and soon she set up The Asperger Training Company – providing various programmes to support people with Asperger Syndrome and raise awareness.
Jayne provides a variety of programmes, workshops and presentations on Aspergers, and personal consultations to help people affected by autistic spectrum disorders.
Jayne added: “I have an 18 year old son who has been diagnosed on the autistic spectrum so I have a close understanding of the problems that can be faced on many levels. I felt the desire to raise awareness of the problems I have come across in my experience and help others in the same situation. I have learnt how to motivate myself every day and get the drive to succeed. Being your own boss has enormous rewards when you are successful, but requires tenacity and determination, which I have in abundance.”
In the coming months Jayne is providing training for Voluntary Action Sheffield - supporting voluntary & community groups in the city.
Director of BiG, Kevin Bennett said: “Jayne has shown an incredible determination to succeed in developing her business and has been keen to take every opportunity to network, understanding how important it is to actively seek out opportunities for growth.
“Recently BiG has helped Jayne through the process of registering her business and helped her find funding to pay for her public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
“Through her workshops, Jayne continues to share many of the lessons and techniques she has developed in dealing with her Aspergers and that of her son, for the benefit of audiences which have included local police, community organisations, schools and university students.”
